CASA/GAL stands for Court Appointed Special Advocate/Guardian ad Litem. A CASA/GAL is a volunteer appointed to represent the best interests of a child in court. Some states require that a Guardian ad Litem be an attorney, but Montana allows both attornies and trained volunteers to be Guardian ad Litems. This may vary by jurisdiction The Eastern Montana CASA/GAL program is comprised of volunteers in 12 counties in Eastern Montana. We come from all walks of life, with one common goal in mind: To be a powerful voice in a child’s life. Eastern Montana CASA/GAL currently has approximately 30 volunteers advocating for 118 children. Visit the National CASA site for more info on what it means to be a CASA/GAL. CASA/GAL volunteers are advocates for children in abuse and neglect court cases, striving to be a voice in the best interests of the child. CASA volunteers typically advocate for one to two cases at a time, until the case is closed or the child is a legal adult. We represent the child’s wishes and best interests in court, as well as providing resources and support. Visit the Montana CASA page to find out more.
